Shillong: A huge cache of arms and ammunition procured from the Taleban by the
United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) were seized from a remote hideout at
Rongdupara in West Garo Hills by the Meghalaya Police, who also had an encounter
with the militants.
The cached arsenal including 11 rocket-propelled grenades, an AK56 rifle and
thousands of rounds of medium machine guns, besides two communication sets, were
seized in the raid on April 10th night, senior police officials said on condition of
anonymity.
There was no casualty on the side of the police in the encounter, which took place
at 9 pm in the ULFA stronghold area.
A number of militants were injured in the firefight as evidenced from the blood
stains in the jungles, the officials said.
During further searches on April 11 mechanism for improvised devices, batteries,
electronic timer devices, electronic circuits, anti-tank and anti-mine pressure
devices were also seized, they said.
