New Delhi: Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of compromising on hindutva
issue, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on April 11 asserted it would build the Ram
temple in Ayodhya or cease to exist as an organisation.
"Temple construction is a do or die battle for us. Either the temple will be
constructed or the VHP will cease to exist," VHP international president Vishnu Hari
Dalmiya told reporters before flagging of a procession marking Ram Navami
celebrations.
Stressing that legislation was the only way to solve the temple issue, Dalmiya
charged that BJP had failed to find an amicable solution to the Ayodhya tangle with
its coalition partners in National Democratic Alliance (NDA) adding that future
course of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement would be decided at a meeting of religious
leaders in Ayodhya on April 29 and 30.
On the withdrawal of a private member's bill on the Uniform Civil Code in Lok Sabha
on April 10, Dalmiya accused the BJP for showing a "lack of willingness" to take up
such causes.
On the Rajasthan government banning distribution of tridents, Dalmiya said the
trishuls offered by the VHP were "well within the limits prescribed by the law".
"But if the Rajasthan government forces the order on us, we will fight it out in
court," he added.
