Chennai: R R Gopal, editor of Tamil magazine 'Nakkeeran', arrested on April 11 night, was lodged in the central jail on April 12 after a city magistrate remanded him to judicial custody till April 25.
Gopal's advocate told reporters that the editor was arrested under the charge of
possessing a country-made pistol and some handbills of the now banned Tamil Nadu
Liberation Army (TNLA). The cases had been booked under the Arms Act and Indian
Penal Code (IPC).
Gopal, who had played a key role in securing the release of Kannada film thespian
Rajkumar in 2000 has been implicated in several Veerappan related cases.
Journalists who had gathered outside the Crime Branch (CB)-Criminal Investigation
Department (CID) headquarters on April 11 night raised slogans condemning the
government for his arrest.
