Saturday, April 12 2003 22:52 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha member Vijay Mallya has resigned from the primary membership of Janata Dal –United (JD-U), party sources said.

Commenting on his resignation, party spokesman K C Tyagi said that Mallya had severed his ties with JD-U three months ago.

He left the party three months ago and joined hands with Janata Dal - Secular leader S R Bommai to form All India Janata Dal, Tyagi said.

"In these circumstances his resignation from JD-U has no meaning and I do not know why is he publicising his resignation now," he added.
