Patna: The Samata Party in Bihar, undergoing a major crisis after pro-Nitish Kumar
Legislators adopted a censure resolution against party president George Fernandes
for allegedly promoting indiscipline, appears headed for a split with Kumar
loyalists calling a series of meetings on April 12 to oust Fernandes' supporters
from key posts in the Legislature party.
The recently appointed convenor of the state party, Bashist Narain Singh, has called
separate meetings of the state executive, the state council and the Legislature
party on April 13 to discuss organisational matters.
But in reality, the deputy leader of the Samata Legislature Party, Upendra Kushwaha
told the meetings would formally seek removal of pro-Fernandes Samata Legislature
Party leader Umashanker Singh and the party's leader in the Legislative Council P K
Sinha.
The Legislature party meeting has been dubbed as unauthorised by Umashanker Singh,
who said the state convenor had exceeded his authority as the Legislature party
leader alone was competent to call its meeting.
