BJP, allies vitiating communal atmosphere: Sonia
Saturday, April 12 2003 14:56 Hrs (IST)

Bakshwaha (MP): Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on April 12 alleged they are "vitiating the communal atmosphere in the country, particularly in Madhya Pradesh with an aim to capture power in the state".

Virtually launching her party's poll campaign in the state while addressing a 'kisan sammelan', Gandhi said, "BJP and its allies are vitiating the communal atmosphere in the country and specially in Madhya Pradesh, to disturb communal harmony".

The Congress president also alleged, "They are doing so with an aim to remain in power, but their aim will never be fulfilled and they should learn a lesson from the drubbing they faced in the recent Assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh."

Congress has strategically organised the sammelan here to take on BJP campaign in charge Uma Bharati, as this area falls under the Badamalhara constituency represented by her estranged brother Swami Lodhi Prasad.

Gandhi reiterated her allegation that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had caused farmers to commit suicide and due to its bad policies, the farmers were taking their own lives despite the fact that godowns were full in the country.

She also said the Centre had failed to provide one crore jobs as promised by it and accused the NDA of lacking any comprehensive policy for the poor youth and weaker sections.
