Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on April 14 accused the Opposition
parties of hatching a conspiracy to discredit and malign the Bahujan Samaj Party
(BSP) and dared Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav to prove the latest
allegations of corruption levelled against her.
Addressing a massive "pardafash" rally at the sprawling Ambedkar Maidan, the Chief
Minister alleged the SP, Congress and other Opposition parties had embarked upon an
exercise to "malign and discredit" the BSP and had released, what she claimed to
be, "doctored and tampered" CDs (compact discs) under a "well-planned political
conspiracy".
Making a frontal attack on SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mayawati claimed "the SP
edited the tapes to suit their interests and to present it in such a fashion so that
it could appear that she had asked her MPs and MLAs to donate a part of their funds
coming under Sansad and Vidhayak Nidhi for the party coffers".
Yadav must tender an apology if allegations levelled by him are wrong, she
said.
