Tikrit: Air raids by US warplanes resumed on April 13 evening around Tikrit, the last major Iraqi town not controlled by coalition forces, reports said.

The bombing targeted areas South and West of Saddam Hussein's hometown, where loyalist defence lines are reported to be concentrated.

According to witnesses, fierce fighting erupted on April 13 on the outskirts of the city between die-hard Iraqi forces and US troops backed by helicopters.
