New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on April 16 sought to play down the
criticism by 'sangh parivar' outfit Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) of Prime Minister
Atal Behari Vajpayee saying some of the points made by it are "more studied".
"The criticism levelled against BJP leadership was not aimed at Prime Minister and
what SJM has said about World Trade Organisation (WTO) and economic issues was "more
studied" than BJP. Maybe there was need for course correction," party sources said
commenting on the attack by SJM leaders, including its chief Dattopant Thengdi
against government's economic policies.
While the parivar wants the government to come out of WTO, the BJP is of the view
that it is not possible for the government to do so, the sources said, adding
despite differences on these issues, "the relations between SJM and BJP are the best
possible".
The sources said there has been no "deterioration" in the relations between Vajpayee
and Thengdi. His reference to Jaichands and Mir Jaffars were not aimed at Vajpayee,
they said.
The sources said the recent meeting between Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), SJM
and BJP at Bhuyandar near Mumbai was very fruitful and top leadership from the three
wings of the parivar attended the meeting and had a free and frank exchange of
views.
Among those who attended the meeting were BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu, party
general secretaries Pramod Mahajan, Rajnath Singh and Sanjay Joshi, while RSS chief
K S Sudershan and SJM was represented by Gurumurthy.
