Camp As-Saliyah (Qatar): Barzan al-Tikriti, half-brother of ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, was arrested on April 17, Brigadier General Vincent Brooks said at US Central Command's forward base.

"This morning, coalition special operation forces supported by US marines captured Barzan Ibrahim Hasan al-Tikriti. Barzan is the half-brother of Saddam Hussein and an adviser to the former regime leader," Brooks said.

"There were no casualties," he added.

A family friend had earlier said Barzan had died on April 11 in a US bombing of his farm in the region of Ramadi, West of Baghdad.

A US official has confirmed reports that another half-brother of Saddam, Watban Ibrahim Hasan, who is Barzan's full brother, was captured near the border with Syria trying to flee Iraq on April 13.
