New Delhi: Terming her relations with Prime Minister Ranil Wikremesinghe
as "horrendous", Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunge has said she was not
sacking him as it would lead to political crisis and accused the government of
giving in "too much" to the demands of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Kumaratunge, who was in New Delhi earlier this month, described LTTE supremo
Vellupillai Prabhakaran as a "completely heartless dictator" who had "ordered" the
cold-blooded murder of hundreds of innocent people, including his own
deputies.
"There will be political crisis in the country. By foul means or whatever they
(Wikramesinghe's UNP) have a majority in Parliament. One has to take the political
situation into consideration before taking such decisions," she told 'India Today'
magazine when asked why she was not sacking the Prime Minister.
Asked if the Prime Minister ever consulted her, the Sri Lankan President said, "No,
never. He just briefs me. Going by the Constitution, the Prime Minister has to take
my permission for every step he takes."
"If he doesn't, I can sack him and his government. But I don't act like that. My
type of politics is very different from his."
On how she pulls along with the Prime Minister, she said, "When we meet, we talk
very nicely. We have good actors in our country."
