Srinagar: Hours ahead of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's arrival in Srinagar, police on April 18 detained JKLF (Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front) vice president Javid Ahmad Mir when he tried to take out a procession of activists of Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons.

Policemen, who were on high alert for Vajpayee's visit and deployed in strength in the city, detained the separatist leader when he came out of a local hotel in the heart of Srinagar this morning, official sources said.

Mir has been lodged in Kothibagh police station, the sources said adding he wanted to create a law and order problem coinciding with Vajpayee's two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir starting on April 18.
