Chennai: Two "electronic courts" would soon be set up in the Supreme Court to enable
litigants from across the country file cases online, Supreme Court judge N Santosh
Hegde said on April 18.
An official committee had recently visited Singapore, where "e-courts" were
successfully functioning, and had submitted a report to the government recommending
that such courts be set up in the country also, he said speaking at the inauguration
of the Computerised Felicitation Centre at the High Court.
Hegde said such e-courts would be able to deliver orders by hearing arguments
through video-conferencing. In Karnataka, all subordinate courts had been
computerised and linked to the High Court but Tamil Nadu had to long way to go,
Hegde said.
Tamil Nadu Law Minister D Jayakumar inaugurated the centre.
The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Subhashan Reddy said a proposal had
already been sent to the government to inter-link all the subordinate courts with
the High Court in the state.
