New Delhi: Finding it difficult to operate through the Western Indian border,
Pakistan's Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) is increasingly trying to route
terrorists, armaments and funds via Nepal and Bangladesh, Central Reserve Police
Force (CRPF) director general S C Chaube said.
Quoting intelligence reports in this regard, he told a press conference that the
trend was making the North-Eastern corridor vulnerable, but the counter measures
were being taken.
"There are militant training camps in Bangladesh. ISI has been able to spread its
network in that country since last six years," said Chaube, whose force is tipped to
take on the role of counter-insurgency in a more elaborate manner following
recommendations of the Group of Ministers (GoM).
He said the maritime border in Gujarat was also vulnerable, as incidents of
smuggling of arms from Pakistan through it had been witnessed.
Pakistan's "machinations" of operating through Bangladesh is making the North East
vulnerable, the CRPF chief said and pointed out that the government was taking
effective counter measures.
On the militancy situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Chaube said the number of incidents
during the first three months of this year were lesser than those reported during
the corresponding period last year.
