New Delhi: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on April 18 made a scathing attack on
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee for offering a hand of friendship to Pakistan
and said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA)
government had displayed its "sheer weakness" by supporting the People's Democratic
Party (PDP)-Congress regime in Jammu and Kashmir.
"I am surprised that despite such bitter experiences in the past, the government is
repeatedly talking peace with Pakistan. Those who do not learn from past experiences
bring harm to themselves and if he happens to be a leader, not only does he lose,
the entire society and the country also suffers," VHP senior vice-president Acharya
Giriraj Kishore said.

The VHP had been opposed to any dialogue with Pakistan and had been advocating that
India attack terrorist training camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir
(PoK).
Criticising Vajpayee's statement that "it is our duty to make the Mufti government
successful", Kishore said it showed the "sheer weakness" of the Central government
and demanded immediate dismissal of the state government.
"The government of Jammu and Kashmir is responsible for the present circumstances
including the recent massacre of Kashmiri Pandits. The state government employees
are abetting crimes against Hindus. The state government should be dismissed and
Governor's rule imposed," Kishore demanded.
He criticised the Centre for not taking stern action against the state government in
the wake of the Nadimarg massacre.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) spokesman Ram Madhav declined to comment on
Vajpayee's address saying, "We are studying it."
