Maya's deeds drive MPs to demand code of conduct
Monday, April 21 2003 12:32 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The filing of cases by Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh against Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders on April 21 provoked members in the Lok Sabha to demand a code of conduct for Chief Ministers.

The members, cutting across party lines, wanted the Prime Minister to convene a meeting to evolve a code of conduct for Chief Ministers.

The entire Opposition supported by two NDA (National Democratic alliance) constituents, Shiv Sena and Samata Party, condemned Mayawati's action as "politics of revenge and a threat to democracy."
