Lapang-Gogoi for joint efforts against militancy
Monday, April 21 2003 15:13 Hrs (IST)

Shillong: The Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang would meet his Assam counterpart, Tarun Gogoi, on April 22 to discuss a joint operation between the two states to curb militancy and issues belated to boundary disputes.

This would be Lapang's first meeting with the Assam Chief Minister after his taking over as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya on March 4 and his deputy, Don Kupar Roy, would accompany him along with former Revenue Minister, S A Khonglam, Home minister, R G Lyngdoh, and PWD minister, Mukul Sangma

The meeting follows the Meghalaya government's decision to go in for a joint operation with Assam to tackle insurgency in the Garo hills region of the state.

In the past weeks Lapang and the Home Minister, R G Lyngdoh, had toured the area separately for an on-the-spot assessment.
