Monday, April 21 2003 20:54 Hrs (IST)

Pune: Three persons of a family, including a girl who was to get married today (April 21), have tested positive for SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), Maharashtra Minister for Health Digvijay Khanvilkar said.

Stanley D'silva, his mother Vimla and sister Julie, who came to India three weeks ago, have been isolated in a ward of Sidhartha hospital, located near market yard in the city, Khanvilkar said.

The family had visited Jakarta and Indonesia recently and had come to Pune as Julie was to get married on April 21, the minister told reporters in Mumbai.

The marriage has been postponed, he added.

Stanley was admitted to the hospital on April 17 and Vimla and Julie on April 19. Their samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune and they tested positive for SARS, Khanvilkar said.

Stanley had recovered, while his mother and sister were on way to recovery, Khanvilkar said.
