Baghdad: Two of the 55 Iraqi officials wanted by the United States have been
apprehended, officials have said, while the first food aid arrived in the shattered
Iraqi capital after a perilous four-day journey.
One month after the launch of the war, US forces announced they will re-open Baghdad
airport to humanitarian flights in the next few days.
Iraq's former scientific research and higher education minister Human abd al-Khaliq
al-Ghafar was captured on April 19 and was in US custody, Lieutenant Herb Josey said
at Central Command's (Centcom) war headquarters in Qatar.
Centcom also said that the Iraqi National Congress reported holding another wanted
official, Jamal Mustafa Abdullah, deputy head of Tribal Affairs Office, who was being
turned over to coalition forces in Baghdad.
Both men appeared in the "most wanted" deck of cards issued by the military.
The two captures would bring to seven the number of officials on the list to be
captured since the March 20 start of the war.
The World Food Programme (WFP) said a 50-truck aid convoy carrying 1,400 metric
tonnes of wheat flour finally arrived in Baghdad following a four-day trip during
which it reportedly came under attack.
