Srinagar: A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan were killed and an officer injured in separate shootouts in Anantnag district of South Kashmir since April 21 night, official sources said.

The LeT militant identified as Javid Ahmad Wani was killed when an Army search party confronted him during house-to-house searches at village Kothar in Acahbal area of Anantnag district on April 22 morning, the sources said.

Wani, a resident of Brari Aangan village, was asked to surrender by the troops, but he ignored the signal and opened fire. The troops retaliated and killed him, they said.

A pistol and some ammunition were recovered from the deceased militant, the sources said.

The sources said two CRPF personnel – an inspector and a 'hawaldar' – were injured when militants opened fire and hurled grenades on a security camp at village Khargund in Shopian area of Pulwama district on April 21 night.

The 'hawaldar' later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, while the condition of the inspector was stated to be stable.

The sources said the CRPF personnel also fired in retaliation but the militants escaped without any casualty.
