Ajmer: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Praveen Togadia was on April 22 released
from central jail, a day after he was granted bail by a local court.
Togadia was welcomed outside by a large number of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), VHP
and Bajrang Dal activists wearing T-shirts printed with the symbol of trident.
State chief of BJP Vasundhara Raje, VHP vice president Acharya Giriraj Kishore
besides Togadia's family members, including his wife and daughter, were also present
there.
Though the district and sessions court had on April 21 ordered release of the VHP
leader, the sureties and the bond were executed only on April 22 morning.
Since the order reached the jail authorities to free him around noon, he was
released at 12.20 pm (IST).
The VHP leader was arrested on the night of April 13 when he was proceeding to
Jaipur after distributing 'trishuls' to VHP and Bajrang Dal activists in Ajmer city,
violating prohibitory orders and ban on possession of 'trishuls' under the Arms Act.
Later, the police booked him under section 121-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) too
on the basis of his "inflammatory" speech delivered at the 'trishul deeksha'
ceremony.
