Wednesday, April 23 2003 14:39 Hrs (IST)
Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minster D D Lapang on April 23 underlined the need for a proper implementation of a law to tackle infiltration
from across the border.
"There is a law to tackle infiltration. And what we need is to implement it," Lapang said.
The Chief Minister, who spoke to the media after releasing the census figure of housing, household amenities and assets of Meghalaya,
said physical fencing of the border and increase of forces along the boundary were some of the measures.
Border roads should be completed and markets in those areas should be opened to make those areas strengthened, he said.
Lapang also suggested the "actual performance" of Border Security Force (BSF) should also be taken into consideration to create
confidence among the people and added that during his recent visit to Delhi, he asked for three more battalions of BSF to strengthen the
border vigil.
