Tornado toll rises to 38, relief supplies rushed

Guwahati: With more reports coming in from interior areas, the death toll rose to 38 in the Tornado-hit four districts of Assam, official
sources said in Guwahati on April 24.
While Dhubri district accounted for 33 deaths, Hailakandi and Dhemaji two each and Sonitpur one, the sources said.
Of the over 2000 injured in Dhubri district, condition of 400 was critical. 10 critically injured patients were shifted to Goalpara Civil Hospital
on April 24 morning.
Relief and medical supplies were being rushed on a war footing to the affected villages from Dhubri, Mancachar and Goalpara.
Deputy Commissioner, Prasanta Kumar Barua was camping in the area to oversee relief and rescue operations.

DIG (Western Range) Mukesh Sahay and Superintendent of Police, Dhubri, Paresh Bordoloi left for the area on April 24.
