Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has vehemently opposed the proposed appointment of former Punjab police chief K P S Gill
as the next Governor of the state.
"I have clearly told the Centre that his (Gill's) appointment would not be advisable more so because he has already served in the state as
a police officer for a considerable period," Gogoi said on April 24.
He said the office of the Deputy Prime Minister had "sounded" him of the appointment of the super cop for the Gubernatorial post
but "that could not be acceptable".
While fearing that there would be adverse reaction to the appointment of a person of Gill's background for the post, Gogoi said in many
circles the former police officer's tenure in the state has been regarded as "controversial".
