Srinagar: Ending a month-long suspense, Jammu and Kashmir's main separatist group Hurriyat Conference on April 24 refused to hold talks with the Centre's interlocutor N N Vohra even as it accused the Centre of adopting "double standards" as to the format of a dialogue in an attempt to seek resolution of Kashmir issue.

"We will not talk to Vohra as government has adopted double standards regarding the format of talks in Nagaland and Kashmir," Hurriyat leader Mohammad Yaseen Malik told reporters after a two-hour meeting of the amalgam's executive committee in Srinagar.

Malik again harped on its "tripartite" form of dialogue between India, Pakistan and representatives of the people of Kashmir for solving the Kashmir issue.

Malik said disputes in Nagaland and Kashmir are not similar but the government could have adopted same format for talks with Kashmiri leadership if it were serious about resolving the long-pending dispute.

"If H D Deve Gowda, I K Gujral and Atal Behari Vajpayee as Prime Ministers can hold talks with NSCN-IM (National Socilaist Council of Nagalim-Issac Muivah) in Canada, France and Japan respectively, why cannot the same yardstick be applied to Kashmir issue?" he asked.

Claiming that Kashmir issue was "much more serious" than Nagaland and a "flash point that was dangerous" for the South Asian region, Malik said, "Vohra's mission seems to be Primarily meant to talk to the so-called elected representatives in Jammu and Kashmir".

"If the government is serious about its intention to resolve Kashmir issue, let them start a dialogue process at the highest level between India, Pakistan and the genuine leadership of Kashmiri people -- who do not accept the Indian sovereignty over the disputed territory," he added.

Former Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umer farooq, who also addressed the media, said it was not necessary for all the three parties to the dispute should sit on the same table at the first instance.
