Jammu: With an aim to bring an end to tensions along the Indo-Bangla border and address other concerns, India and Bangladesh have
decided to hold a five-day long conference of director generals (DGs) commencing from April 27 at Dhaka, a senior Border Security Force
(BSF) official said.
"A major conference at the DG level would be held at Dhaka from April 27 not only to bring a complete end to the tensions along Indo-
Bangla border, but also to solve multiple problems between the two sides," DG, BSF, Ajay Raj Sharma said on April 24.
Sharma, who undertook a review of the border fencing operations along international border (IB) in Jammu sector, said the conference,
which is held for the first time at DG level, would debate various issues including infiltration of Bangladeshis, border fencing and security
measures.
He said there have been tension along the borderline in past over a few particular incidents, but "things have eased out along Indo-
Bangla border".
Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) had tried to push in over 250 Bangladeshis in J and K, but our troops foiled that. It resulted in a tense situation,
which continued for some week but finally things eased out after several meetings were held between the two sides, he said.
Regarding fencing along Tripura-Bangladesh border, he said the fencing had been started by the Central Public Works Department
(CPWD) and it would be completed by 2007.
