Pandit Jasraj bags coveted Yudhvir award

Hyderabad: Renowned vocalist Padma Vibhushan Jasraj has been selected for the 12th 'Yudhvir' memorial award for the year 2003 for his outstanding contribution in the field of music.

Andhra Pradesh Governor Surjit Singh Barnala would present the award consisting a citation and cash of Rs 30,000 to the distinguished vocal musician on April 30.

The main aim of the foundation set up in 1991 to commemorate the life and work of late Yudhvir, founder editor of daily 'Hindi Milap' is to propagate the noble ideals and to honour those who contribute to national integration, social service and in the field of human endeavour.

Among those who have received the Yudhvir awards include Ramoji Rao, chairman of 'Eenadu' publication, Prof U R Rao of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and former Union Finance Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
