S K Sinha may be sworn in as JK Governor on May 1

Jammu: Former Assam Governor lieutenant general (retired) S K Sinha is likely to be sworn in as Jammu and Kashmir Governor on May 1, official sources said on April 24.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has given his consent to the appointment of Sinha, who will succeed Girish Chandra Saxena whose term expires on May 2, the sources said.

Saxena is understood to have asked that he be relieved on April 30.

Saxena was Governor of J and K for two terms, after replacing Jagmohan on May 26, 1990 and continued in office till March 1993.

Saxena was replaced by general (retired) K V Krishna Rao who was Governor till May 2, 1998.

However, Saxena was again appointed J and K Governor on May 2, 1998 replacing general Rao.
