K'taka pvt colleges reject govt proposal on admissions
Thursday, April 24 2003 19:17 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore: The private professional colleges in Karnataka on April 24 decided to set up a parallel apparatus for admission of students
through a single window agency, rejecting outright the state government seat-sharing
formula and fee structure in a move that would signal a fresh bout of confrontation between them and the state.
"The consortium of private medical, dental and engineering colleges have decided to go in for common applications for filling up 100 per
cent seats based on common merit list on the basis of qualifying examination marks," the private colleges consortium chairman Shamanur
Shivashankarappa and its senior member R L Jalappa said while expecting the entire process of admission to be complete by July.
Briefing the press on the outcome of the meeting of Private Unaided Private Engineering College Association and the Private Medical
College Association convened to discuss the recent government decision of providing only 25 per cent of seats to managements and
newly fixed fee structure, they declared, "We will not give one seat to CET (Common Entrance Test) this year."
Jalappa said all the admissions will be done in a fair and transparent manner in a single location through an independent agency without
any hassle to students and each institution would have its own fee structure based on cost.
