Togadia to lead trishul distribution in Delhi
Thursday, April 24 2003 20:54 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: After his arrest for distributing tridents in Ajmer and subsequent release, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) firebrand leader Praveen Togadia would lead a "trishul deeksha" programme in the capital on May 4, VHP sources said on April 24.

Togadia would lead the trident distribution programme of the Indraprastha Vishwa Hindu Parishad at the Lakshmi Nagar district centre in East Delhi as part of the organisation's ongoing programme across the country, the sources said.

The VHP international secretary general was given bail by an Ajmer court on the condition that he would not engage in distribution of tridents.

The sangh parivar outfit had been vigorously carrying out the trident distribution programme in Rajasthan, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh, where Assembly polls are scheduled to be held later this year though VHP asserts its programmes have nothing do with the elections.

While VHP leader Acharya Dharmendra was arrested in Dewas in Madhya Pradesh, Togadia was arrested in Ajmer.

Meanwhile, VHP senior vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore told reporters the outfit would continue with the programme notwithstanding the ban on it by the Rajasthan government and the arrest of Togadia.

Asked whether Togadia himself would distribute the tridents in Rajasthan, Kishore said, "It is for the organisation to decide where Praveenbhai is required."
