Iraq's WMD may never be found, says Bush
Friday, April 25 2003 22:45 Hrs (IST)
Washington: After an unsuccessful search of several sites in Iraq where the CIA was confident the US would find Saddam Hussein's
weapons of mass destruction (WMD), President George W Bush has hinted that these weapons may never be found.
However, he added he is convinced that they had been in Iraq.
"Saddam tried to fool the UN, and did for 12 years, by hiding these weapons. And so it is going to take time to find them," he told workers
at a factory in Ohio that made the Abrams tank, which sliced through Iraq's Defences.
"But we know he had them. But whether he destroyed them, moved them, or hid them we are going to find out the truth," Bush said.
"And one thing is for certain--Saddam Hussein no longer threatens America with weapons of mass destruction," he said.
US-led forces scouring Iraq for the chemical and biological weapons that Saddam Hussein always denied possessing have yet to turn up
any evidence to back up Bush's
main case for using force to topple and oust the Iraqi leader.
