Joshi asks Opposition not to politicise education
Friday, April 25 2003 15:03 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi on April 25 asked the Opposition not to "politicise" the education
and said views of about 3,000 people, including those from major political parties, was sought on the national curriculum of school
education before
finalising it.
Some Opposition members alleged the government had overlooked views of the states with Congress member Eduardo Faleiro wanting to
know whether 15 out of 21 Education Ministers walked out of the National Council of Educational and Research Training (NCERT)
meeting in May 2002.
Joshi, who was replying to supplementaries during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha, said the meeting had rejected the objections of these
ministers while discussing the curricula in detail.
He said the issues raised by the state Education Ministers related to the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE),
2000, which has been subjected to a judicial review by a division bench of Supreme Court.
Joshi said no objections were raised during the finalisation of the curricula, but now things are taking a political turn.
"We should not politicise education," he told the Opposition members.
