Speaker Joshi rejects all adjournment notices
Friday, April 25 2003 13:18 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) member Akhilesh Singh on April 25 said in Lok Sabha that he was being threatened and that Question
Hour be suspended to discuss this.
His party colleague Ramjilal Suman sought a debate on the wheat lying in markets in Uttar Pradesh.
Taking note of Akhilesh Singh's remarks, Speaker Manohar Joshi said, "If any member feels that there is threat to his life, I will tell the
Home Minister to do the needful."
As Singh and Suman persisted with their demands for suspension of Question Hour, a visibly annoyed Speaker said, "I have received a
number of adjournment notices and suspension of Question Hour and I have rejected all of them."
He said from next week onwards he would not allow any such notices and "there will be no suspension of Question Hour".
Congress leader Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi wanted Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani to take the House into confidence on his meeting with
the three service chiefs in the wake of the report of the Parliamentary committee on Defence.
"The Deputy Prime Minister must take the house into confidence and give the actual position of defence preparedness," Dasmunsi said.
