Mamata's aide Sonali swallows sleeping pills
Friday, April 25 2003 12:08 Hrs (IST)
Kolkata: A close aide of Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and party Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Sonali Guha
was admitted to a city nursing home after swallowing sleeping pills on April 24.
Guha, who had swallowed 30 sleeping pills, was now out of danger, nursing home sources said.
''Her condition could have been fatal. But we have saved her by washing her stomach,'' the sources said.
She would be kept under observation for 72 hours.
Some of Guha's close associates said her action was a sequel to the denial of the post of chairman of borough five of the Trinamool
Congress-run Kolkata municipal corporation to her husband Partha Bose. Instead, sitting borough chairperson Pratima Mondol was re-
elected.
Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly and senior party leader Pankaj Banerjee refused to comment on the incident, saying he did
not want to intrude into Guha's personal affair.
Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy, however, termed it as a 'childish act'.
