Saturday, April 26 2003 16:01 Hrs (IST)

Rae Bareilly: A special court hearing the Babri Masjid demolition case, wherein Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and seven others are facing trial, on April 26 adjourned the case for hearing on May 13.

As the proceeding began defendant lawyers sought exemption from the court for the personal appearance of the accused, which was granted for April 26 by judicial magistrate Vinod Kumar Singh.

The court had on April 16 granted exemption from personal appearance to all the eight accused – Advani, Union Minister M M Joshi, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders Ashok Singhal, Giriraj Kishore, Hari Vishnu Dalmiya, Vinay Katiyar, Uma Bharti and Sadhvi Ritambhara.

The court had also ordered Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file all relevant papers by April 26 for early disposal of the case and in response it filed some.

The charges against the accused will be framed only on their personal appearance in the court.
