20 children feared drowned in JK boat capsize
Saturday, April 26 2003 18:45 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: At least 20 school children were feared drowned on April 26 when an overcrowded boat carrying them capsized in a stream in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The mishap occurred when the children, after attending school at Arampora, were crossing the stream on way to Jagerpora in the district, official sources said.

Heavy rains in the Kashmir valley since April 25 has increased water level of rivers and streams. However, six children were rescued and the search was on for 16 others. Four bodies have so far been recovered.
