'Repealing amendments could result in crisis'

Islamabad: As the Pakistan government and the Opposition began talks to resolve differences over the issue of the legality of his
Presidency and Constitutional amendments, Pervez Musharraf has warned that the repeal of his amendments could result in grave internal
and external crises
for the country.
Just as Jamali began talks with the Opposition on April 25 to break the deadlock over the issue, Musharraf told a group of ruling Pakistan
Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) senators that the Opposition parties should not insist on their demand that he should quit as chief of Army as it
would "harm democratic institutions in the country".
He said Pakistan could face serious consequences if the legal framework order (LFO), which incorporated his amendments, was removed
in its totality from the Constitution.
If he quit as chief of Army, the present political system could come under pressure from various quarters, local daily 'Dawn' quoted him as
saying.
He said he was not against making minor changes in the LFO but its "reversal" was not at all acceptable to him. "I am not a rigid person
and ready to accept better advice but I cannot be forced to do things," he added.
