Mumbai: On certain conditions, a special court on April 28 exempted from appearance for four days actor Sanjay Dutt and 86 other
accused in the 1993 bomb blast case.
Exempting the accused till May 2, designated judge P D Kode warned them not to leave the city without permission during the period and
also told not to establish contacts with absconding accused in the case and ensure that they were represented by their lawyers in the
court.
In a related development, the court decided to give its ruling on April 30 on Central Bureau of India's (CBI) plea to include in the trial two
accused Ejaz Pathan and Majnu Mustaffa who were deported from Dubai last month.
Deposing before the court, Ejaz said he would like to be included in the trial. CBI initially pleaded that Pathan be included but later left it to
the discretion of the court.
In keeping with a judicial directive, Sanjay and 86 other accused appeared before the court on April 28.
The actor is facing trial since his arrest in April 1993. Ever since being granted bail in October 1995 by the Supreme Court, he has been
coming to the court regularly.
Sanjay is facing the charge of possessing an AK-56 rifle in a notified area under Terrorist and Disrupted Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA)
and destroying evidence (disposing of the rifle). The actor has already denied the charges.
