Tridents do not come under Arms Act: VHP
Monday, April 28 2003 10:15 Hrs (IST)

Raipur: Asserting that tridents did not come under the Arms Act, senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Acharya Giriraj Kishore on April 27 claimed that Rajasthan government had imposed the ban on tridents to appease a particular community.

"When Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh could distribute 2,000 swords without permission, why is the trident being opposed?" the VHP leader asked.

Kishore was in Raipur to attend a function organised by the Sindhi community.

Pointing out that arrest of firebrand VHP leader Praveen Togadia had not affected the schedule of trishul deeksha programmes, Kishore said tridents were being distributed at several places in the country, including Rajasthan.

Replying to a question on the Ram temple, the saffron leader said Hindus have already achieved two-thirds success and added that Parishad has appealed to MPs to formulate a Law for its construction without further delay.

He reiterated that a temple stood over the disputed site, which has been proved by excavations conducted there and claimed that a "yagna kunda" had come to light.

Kishore said the activities of churches have increased in the recent years in Chhattisgarh and conversions were taking place in the state.
