Suspected SARS patient flees from hospital

Gurdaspur: A suspected SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) patient fled from the civil hospital in Gurdaspur, a senior health official said on April 29.

L M Sharma was admitted to local civil hospital on April 28 after he complained of cough, temperature and breathlessness, senior doctor at the hospital G S Dhillon said.

The patient, believed to be from Kahnuwan area in this district, was admitted to isolation ward after being suspected of carrying SARS, Dhillon said.

However, "the patient managed to give a slip to hospital staff without bothering for getting the treatment," he said.

Meanwhile health authorities have started a search for the patient.
