US' retaliatory fire kills 15 Iraqis: Al-Jazeera
Tuesday, April 29 2003 17:58 Hrs (IST)

Qatar: Qatar-based Al-Jazeera television said on April 29 that US troops fired on a crowd on April 28 in a town West of Baghdad, killing 15 Iraqis and wounding about 50 others.

Jazeera's Baghdad correspondent said the incident happened around midnight (20:00 GMT April 28) in Falluja, after someone in the crowd threw a stone at the US troops.

The crowd of about 200 had reportedly finished Muslim evening prayers at a mosque and answered a call by preachers to protest against the continued presence of US forces in Iraq.

However, the report, which did not initially specify the source of its information, could not be independently confirmed.
