Wednesday, April 30 2003 16:43 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: In a new development in the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) scam, the Central Bureau of
Investigation (CBI) carried out searches at the residences of former High Court judge Shamit Mukherjee
and others, including lawyers, on April 30 morning for their alleged involvement in the scam.
The CBI registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act and abuse of official position against the
former judge, as it recovered some important case files pending in Mukherjee's court, official sources
said.
The sleuths of the CBI carried out searches at the residence of Mukherjee and a dozen other places
believed to be belonging to some lawyers and private persons.
After seizing some documents from his residence, the former High Court judge was taken to the CBI
headquarters for questioning, the sources said, adding no decision had been taken yet to place him
under arrest.
Details about raids at other places were being awaited.
During the raids on March 26, the CBI had recovered some important case files pertaining to
Mukherjee's court from a guest house in Asiad village.
It is believed that after the recovery of the files, CBI director P C Sharma met chief justice V N Khare and
apprised him about the recovery of files.
Mukherjee, whose name started to get thick in this controversy, submitted his resignation on March 31,
but cited the health of his wife as the reason for the decision.
Later, the former High Court judge made an unsuccessful attempt to withdraw his resignation.
