Normal life in Patna goes haywire over 'lathi' rally
Wednesday, April 30 2003 15:32 Hrs (IST)
Patna: All roads lead to historic Gandhi maidan with lathi wielding Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) workers marching in large numbers to the
venue where the rally is scheduled to start on April 30.
The rallyists kept on trooping in the state capital throughout from different parts of Bihar and outside on trains, buses and other vehicles to
take part in the Sampradayikta hatao desh bachao, Bush hatao duniya bachao (oust communalism save the country and oust bush and
save the world) rally, RJD sources said.
Almost all the trains are running late on average by two-three hours under Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) because of
forcible stoppage by the rallyists at different stations, additional divisional railway manager (ADRM), Danapur, A K Verma said.
Majority of the schools and colleges are closed on April 30 in view of the rally while the government schools that are open have registered
thin attendance of students and teachers.
Similar was the condition in government offices, banks and public undertakings where only few staff could reach the office because of
non-availability of public transports and fear of violence during the rally.
ECR sources said that train traffic was disrupted for a few hours under Barauni-Muzaffarpur section following abduction of assistant station
master (ASM) of Barauni station by the rallyist, who was freed later at Simaria in Begusarai district. The rallyists took control of railway
cabin in railway minister Nitish Kumar's constituency Barh resulting suspension of train services for a long time.
