New Delhi: Opposing resumption of normal ties with Pakistan, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) firebrand leader Praveen Togadia on April 30
said any such move on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government's part would suggest a "weakness" in its commitment to
safeguard national security.
Togadia, who was in the capital for the first time after his arrest and subsequent release in Ajmer, also declared that notwithstanding the
ban, he would re-distribute 'Trishuls' (tridents) in Rajasthan, if the VHP state unit so desires.
"Pakistan continues to support cross-border terrorism as is evident from the recent attacks on Radio Kashmir and security forces. Any
move to resume normal ties with Islamabad would suggest weakness in the government's commitment to safeguard national security," the
VHP leader, who was on his way to addressing a public meeting in Rajasthan, said when asked about the latest initiative to break the
Indo-Pak logjam.
Charging the government with "suffering from Nehruvian foreign policy", he said it failed to safeguard national interests vis-a-vis Iraq.
"By passing a resolution in Parliament against the US attack on Iraq, we blocked the way to retrieving Rs 120 million that Baghdad owed
us besides a role in the reconstruction of Iraq. We have played Gujral-II, a re-enactment of Gujral-I in Kuwait," said Togadia, who was
isolated by the Sangh Parivar over his earlier statement in favour of US.
The VHP leader also charged a few leaders of the BJP with taking advantage of Hindutva without being sincere in their commitment.
