Wednesday, April 30 2003 10:58 Hrs (IST)
Srinagar: Centre's interlocutor on Kashmir N N Vohra on April 29 invited separatist groups, including Hurriyat Conference, for talks
notwithstanding their refusal to have parleys with him.
Wrapping up his nine-day mission in Kashmir during which he met several leaders of various political parties, he told reporters that "the
process of talks will not be complete unless we have heard and discussed with all those who are angry, unhappy, dissidents and sharing
a different belief."
Vohra appealed to "everyone" with whatever belief or ideology to come forward and hold talks.
The 66-year-old retired bureaucrat hoped that those who did not meet him "will come forward" when he returns to the Valley.
During his stay in Srinagar, Vohra had parleys with leaders of various political parties, including National Conference, ruling PDP (People's
Democratic Party) and Congress on the Kashmir issue.
The Hurriyat Conference and prominent separatist leader Shabir Shah declined to meet Vohra despite statement by Prime Minister Atal
Behari Vajpayee that the Centre's interlocutor would like to meet everyone.
On extending formal invitations to separatist groups, he said that the Prime Minister, during his two-day visit to the Valley, had extended
open invitation for all.
Commenting on last night's telephonic talks between Pakistan premier Mir Zaffarullah Khan Jamali and Vajpayee, Vohra said, "I am
hopeful, it will have a positive impact on Indo-Pak relations" and his mission Kashmir.
