Centre names new Governors to JK, 4 other states

New Delhi: Assam Governor S K Sinha was on May 2 appointed Governor of Jammu and Kashmir as the Centre named new Governors for five states.

Among the new Governors, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kailashpati Mishra was named for Gujarat in place of Sunder Singh Bhandari and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Ram Prakash Gupta will take over in Madhya Pradesh from Bhai Mahavir.

Nirmal Chandra Jain has been appointed for Rajasthan in place of Justice Anshuman Singh, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said.

The other two new Governors are retired Justice Om Prakash Varma (Punjab) and another retired Justice V S Kokje (Himachal Pradesh), it said.

The current incumbents in Punjab and Himachal are Lt S F R Jacob and Suraj Bhan, respectively.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha will replace G C Saxena, who has completed five years.
