Krishna sticks to his guns on admissions issue
Friday, May 2 2003 16:11 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Sticking to his government's tough position towards private managements, Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna on May 2 said it was going ahead with preparations for the conduct of Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to professional courses.

"How often should I repeat the same decision", Krishna shot back on the ongoing tussle between the government and managements of unaided colleges on the twin issues of admission and fee structure.

Krishna however indicated that the government was willing for talks, saying, "Our doors are open".

In the wake of an impasse, government last week notified draft rules, retaining 75 per cent of the seats and leaving the rest to managements in professional courses, including medical, engineering and dental.

He also dismissed a question about managements of several private colleges being run by Congress leaders, saying the party and individuals were different and the two issues could not be clubbed. He however stressed that education and politics should not be mixed.
