New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on May 1 endorsed the government's latest
initiative to break the Indo-Pak logjam but said Islamabad should make its intentions clear through
actions on the ground.
"We welcome the government's policy of improving relations with the neighbours but the neighbouring
countries too must make their intentions clear through actions," RSS joint general secretary Madan Das
Devi told reporters on the sidelines of the sangh parivar's co-ordination meeting with Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) top brass.
He said "an atmosphere of friendship" was in the interest of both the countries.
Devi expressed hope of an "attitudinal change" on Pakistan's side this time.
Asked whether the government had made the offer of friendship under pressure from the US, he
said, "We are part of the international community which wants good neighbourly relations."
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Praveen Togadia, who is attending the sangh meeting, had on
April 30 opposed resumption of normal ties with Pakistan and said any such move on the BJP-led
government's part would suggest a "weakness" in its commitment to safeguard national
security.
The post-lunch session of the meeting also discussed the issues of national security and external and
internal threats.
