Saturday, May 3 2003 18:07 Hrs (IST)

Imphal: Unidentified militants on May 3 ambushed a vehicle of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Ningthoukhong area in Bishenpur district of Manipur, official sources said.

However there was no casualty on the side of the border guards, the sources said.

The ultras triggered the powerful explosion with remote control when the vehicle was passing by at Ningthoukhong, about 30 km South of Imphal, the sources said.

The activists later managed to escape under jungle cover.

Though the identity of the militants was not yet known, activists of the separatist United National Liberation Front (ULFA) and some other groups were reportedly active in the area, the sources said.
