New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, who is at loggerheads with Samajwadi Party in the
state, on May 3 said her government would take strong action if the Opposition party distributed "talwar"
(swords) openly.
"If Samajwadi Party distributes 'talwar' openly, my government would take strong action against it," she
told reporters.
To a question whether her government would initiate action in case VHP decided to distribute 'trishuls'
(tridents) in the state, the BSP leader said, "Trishuls are much smaller. If some trishuls are distributed, I
don't see any harm."
On her own, she said she fully supported the statement of Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on the
issue.
"I have read the Deputy Prime Minister's statement on trishul diksha abhiyan of VHP (Vishwa Hindu
Parishad). I totally agree with him," she said, adding that she did not want to make them heroes like
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot did when he arrested Praveen Togadia.
